It’s no breaking news the fact that we are in the festive period. This is one of the busiest parts of the year. Asides being the busiest, it’s the time of the year when we get to spend time with friends and family. The limitless supply of food and drinks. While some of us can already smell the Christmas pudding, others are already making preparations for a nice fried turkey – I’m sure you are already salivating. Whatever you do, remember, your guts going to be at the receiving end of it. But not to worry, in this little but detailed piece, I’ll be sharing with you, some of my best tips to keep your gut healthy over the festive period.

Eat consciously

We get carried away with the things we consume during the holiday, but the safest thing to do is to stay conscious of whatever it is you will be consuming. It’s not just about implementing the right diet or restricting yourself from taking what you term as ‘junks’. It’s as simple as being mindful of what you eat and being in the present as you eat your meal. Simply put, being mindful lets you chew your food properly. Being in a relaxed state lets your digestive system work optimally.

Herbs will do the magic

The importance of herbs is often underrated. When we overindulge our body, we can always count on herbs to help wick out the toxins in our system. Herbs such as milk thistle seeds, artichoke, barberry root, kawakawa and other herbs alike can help in a lot of ways. When we consume these herbs on a daily basis, they help protect our livers, wick out toxins from our systems, hasten metabolism, amongst other things.

Optimise your immunity

Learn to boost your immunity. A large sum of our immunity can be found in our gut. So, if and when you need to optimize your wellbeing, that’s a good place to start. For instance, herbal tinctures that are echinacea – based will do the trick and probiotics!!

Get enough rest

Sleep, yes, get enough of it. if there is one thing that should be amongst your top activities for this festive period, that should be getting enough rest. Just like we stated earlier, the festive period affords us the perfect opportunity to eat as much as we want, much more than we’d normally consume. What’s the perfect way to repair your body? the simple answer to that is getting enough rest. When you don’t get enough rest, it affects your guts negatively.

Drink water – enough of it

It’s no gainsaying the fact that water is by far one of the best detoxifiers out there. When you increase your water intake, it helps to boost the overall functionality of your body. It also helps maintain the perfect energy level. Lastly, taking enough water helps to hydrate our skin.
